Spilt Milk follows 11-year-old Bobby O’Brien, a boy who dreams of becoming a greatd etective like his TV hero Kojak. Bobby sets up his own private-investigation enterprise with his best friend Nell and they embark on a quest to find Bobby’s older brother Oisin.
The film made its World Premiere at Tallinn Black Nights International Film Festival, before winning the MUBI Audience Award at Glasgow Film Festival. It was nominated for Best Film at the IFTA Awards 2025, while Brian Durnin was nominated for Best Director, Cara Loftus was nominated for Best Script and Gwen Jeffares Hourie was nominated for Costume Design.
Spilt Milk introduces Cillian Sullivan in his debut feature film role as Bobby O’Brien, the junior sleuth, alongside Naoise Kelly as his best friend Nell Casey. The supporting cast include Danielle Galligan (Lakelands, Shadow & Bone, House of Guinness), Laurence O’Fuarain (The Gentlemen, The Witcher: Blood Origin), Pom Boyd (The Dry, Frank of Ireland), and Lewis Brophy (Baltimore, KIN).
Spilt Milk is produced by Laura McNicholas for 925 Productions and James Heath for Randan and is written by Cara Loftus, with Cormac Fox of Vico Films as executive producer. Heads of department are: Cathal Watters (The Dry, Peaky Blinders, Foundation), director of photography; Shane McEnroe (Foundation, Abigail, Disenchanted), production designer; Gwen Jefferes Hourie (Sing Street, Abigail, I Kill Giants); Colin Monie (Hallam Foe, The Magdalene Sisters), editor; Scott Twynholm (Vanilla Sky) as composer and Aine O’Sullivan (The Tourist), casting director.
