The feature debut from director Brendan Canty, Christy follows 17-year-old Christy at a crossroads after he’s kicked out of his suburban foster home and moves in with his estranged older brother in Cork’s Northside. Christy celebrates the power of community through its honest and warm-hearted depiction of finding tribe and a family, and provides a hopeful, humorous and inclusive snapshot of Ireland's contemporary youth: a story that champions universal themes of a search for identity and belonging.
Introducing Danny Power (The Young Offenders) in the lead role as Christy, with Diarmuid Noyes (Pure Mule: The Last Weekend, Five Minutes of Heaven) as his brother Shane. Other cast include Emma Willis (Vikings, The Young Offenders, Dating Amber), Alison Oliver (Saltburn, Conversations With Friends), Chris Walley (Bodkin, The Young Offenders) and Helen Behan (The Virtues, This Is England '90). Christy draws inspiration from the lived experiences of the young people involved, assembling much of its ensemble cast from the Kabin Studio in Cork, a non-profit community space that has grown out of a love for hip hop and art.
Filmed on location around Cork City, Christy will release on 29th August in cinemas across Ireland.
