LAUNCH OF JOHN BOORMAN'S DEBUT NOVEL 'CRIME OF PASSION' WITH BRENDAN GLEESON

  • Date:  18:30 Thursday, September 15th
  • Venue: Light House Cinema, Dublin

The Irish Film & Television Academy in association with Liberties Press Launch John Boorman's debut novel 'Crime of Passion'.

Brendan Gleeson will introduce the author and officially launch the book.

'Crime of Passion' is a novel about film-makers and film-making. Director Daniel Shaw and his producer Jack Diamond have made movies, but if they are to stay in the game, they need to make a commercial picture. So, they concoct a script that they hope is sexy and violent enough to attract a mass audience. They call it 'Crime of Passion'.

Daniel's manic obsessions threaten to derail the film, his wife's infidelity unhinges it, and his insistence on casting a beautiful, unknown actress in the lead role takes the project into jeopardy.

'Crime of Passion' is a novel full of barbed wit and insights, that lifts the lid on the mercurial world of film-making. It is published by Liberties Press.

John Boorman has made an extraordinary and unique contribution to film-making in Ireland over a 45 year period. In addition to making Zardoz starring Sean Connery - the film that re-opened Ardmore , Excalibur, The General and The Tiger's Tale in this country, he has served on the first Irish Film Board, was responsible for the re-opening and running of Ardmore Studios for the period 1973-80, was the catalyst for the introduction of the Section 35 Tax Scheme in 1987, and over the years has given many Irish film-makers such as Neil Jordan and Jim Sheridan valued support and advice at the start of their careers. He was the recipient of the IFTA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.

IFTA congratulates John Boorman on this exciting new phase in his career.
