Sacha Baron Cohen shot to fame in 1998 when his comic characters Ali G, Borat and Bruno appeared on Channel 4’s Eleven O’Clock Show. Da Ali G Show began in 2000 and won the BAFTA for Best Comedy Series the following year. In 2003, the series began broadcasting in the US on HBO. Baron Cohen’s debut feature was Ali G Indahouse. He later voiced the character of Julien in the CG animated feature Madagascarand appeared alongside Will Ferrell in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan premiered at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. The film opened number 1 in the US and has gone on to have over 20 number one openings as well as setting U.S. box office records. |
