The Runway, the debut feature from IFTA nominated writer/director Ian Power is released in cinemas across Ireland this weekend.
In February this year The Runway was awarded the IFTA for Director of Photography (PJ Dillon) and Production Design (Ray Ball) as well as being nominated for a whole host of awards at the 2011 ceremony including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress for Kerry Condon’s role as Grace Thomas.
Ian Power’s warm-hearted directorial debut tells the story of a young boy who befriends a South American Pilot after he crash lands in a small Cork Village in 1983. Based on a true story, the people of the village come together to help build a runway ensuring the safe return home of the pilot.
As well as its IFTA success The Runway was chosen as Best Irish Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh 2010 and was this year’s winner of the Directors Finders Series at the Directors Guild of America.
The film goes on limited theatrical release today (10th June) in cinemas around Ireland at the following cinemas: Cineworld, Movie @ Dundrum and Swords, Screen Cinema, Omniplex Santry, Swan Cinema, UCI Coolock and Vue Liffey Valley.
Produced by IFTA Member Macdara Kelleher of Fastnet Films, The Runway is set to get a U.S. release later this year with Olive Films.

RTÉ review
“This pacey comedy is a nostalgic reminder of simpler times in a cash-poor, community-rich Ireland and combined with wonderful performances, is a gem of a family film.”
